Last year, I lost money. This year, I made money.

In 2025, I pivoted to teaching math. I didn’t know how to get leads. So I just created content. It was bad. Some months was 1 lead. Only 1 month had 9 leads. This affected my revenue. I lost money in 2025. Why? I rented a small office ($450/month), but my revenue was less than that.

Monthly leads in 2025, with a peak of 9 leads in November

2025 payments dashboard showing SGD 1,500.00 in gross volume

Reasons why my revenue was low:

[1] Priced very cheap ($150/month)
[2] Was doing classes
[3] Didn’t know how to get consistent leads
[4] Bad lead magnet

Then this year, in 2026, I made money and profit! How?

[1] Increased price ($400/month)
[2] Changed to 1 to 1
[3] Found a format to get consistent leads
[4] Improved the lead magnet (past year papers, and free trial 1 to 1 lesson)

Monthly leads in 2026, with a peak of 21 leads in May and 4 leads so far in September

Payments dashboard from January 1 to September 19, 2026, showing SGD 13,131.00 in gross volume

A few things I learnt:

[1] Starting 1 on 1 is better. Parents value more towards 1 to 1 tutoring
[2] Content that worked for me was using animations using Canva (very tedious) to explain hard Math questions.
[3] Create qualifying questions i.e. what is your monthly budget for 1 to 1 tuition classes. This helped me to filter out the people who can’t afford my classes
