TLDR: Control.
After 7 years of different careers as an employee, freelancer, business partner and now doing my own thing (EzWin Academy), I learnt I need to be in full control. Otherwise, I get stressed and depressed.
Full control of what? - you might ask.
For now, it’s this:
Hiring & culture
Direction of the company
Majority stake in the company
That’s it. And it will probably change in the future.
How did I found out I need to be control? - you might ask again, you clever cookie.
This was when I had a business partnership. I only had a very small stake in the company.
Stress started to creep in halfway working with the business. And it got worse.
I was facing stress, like almost everyday. And this was happening for a few months.
And the plain reason was: It wasn’t my company.
That realisation created a sunken feeling in me.
So then, I quit. We ended the partnership in a good note, and I appreciate my business partner that we talked it out. From the conversation, it made me realise that I really need to be in control. Otherwise, I get stressed and depressed.
After that, I started my own thing, and I felt relieved, and less stressed.
Weird part, I work almost the same amount of hours, or actually more.
The thing is, if I want control from the start, the best way is start my own business (EzWin Academy).
And that is what I’m doing. It’s very risky and tough. But, I’m willing to go through that to have:
Control.
